Description: "Carved from the Land" bears witness to life, beauty, admiration and faith. Inuit sculptures are vividly set within a more global cultural history of the Canadian Inuit. The Eskimo Museum celebrated 50 years of operation in 1994, reflecting a special vision of the local Roman Catholic Diocese (covering 2,300,000 square kilometers, from Gjoa Haven in the west to Iqaluit in the east, and from the high Arctic Islands to Churchill, Manitoba) to promote the traditions and history of the people in its area.
