Polar Bears are often called the world’s largest carnivores. Females can weigh anywhere from 370 lbs. while males average as much as 1,600 lbs. Their massive triangular-shaped heads can be more than 16 inches long and nearly a foot across. At eight and a half inches wide, the bear’s paws serve two functions: they are flippers for swimming and a weapon to with which to battle prey.

The young carver Ashoona Ashoona is a member of the famous Ashoona family, which includes famous carvers Kiawak, Kaka and Ohito Ashoona, as well as the late master printmaker Pitseolak Ashoona.
