This polar bear is captured silently padding along the icy Arctic coastline, with its head turned to the side in search for its favourite meal, the seal. The ringed seal pup is the tastiest fare with its layers of energy-rich blubber, making it the polar bear's favourite food in the winter months.

With its superbly proportioned body and skillfully captured movement, the artist has accomplished to give this bear a strong sense of presence. What makes this carving even more special is the stone he used, the sparkly white quartzite dotted with tiny black speckles. There are very few artists in Cape Dorset willing to work in quartzite, considering the hardness of this stone. The snowy-white coat of this bear certainly looks very realistic.
