Description: These delightful little ladies, made by female artist Alice Akkamuk of Arviat (formerly Eskimo Point) are made out of Basalt – a very hard, volcanic stone found in the Keewatin. Alice makes the little necklaces out of glass beads. They are not merely for decoration, but to represent the past, when the Inuit women’s amautiks (parkas) were adorned with hundreds of beads in many intricate patterns. They look wonderful on their own and they also look quite quaint when several are grouped together. |
