An Inuksuk is a powerful symbol of the Canadian Arctic. Its form communicates many messages, indicating anything from a safe trail to a good spot for fishing to a resting place. An inuksuk with an extended arm would point the travellers in the right direction. An inuksuk built for hunting purposes usually had two to three stones. The most common form, however, was in the shape of a human figure. These inuksuit often carry messages of respect, standing as a memorial for a loved one, or marking a place of spiritual importance. Their deepest meaning, however, is as a symbol of human endurance and survival. As a gift, it is appropriate for someone who has earned the respect of others; a mentor or leader. A full, 1-page write-up on the inuksuk will be included with every purchase.
