This wonderfully rotund mother and child has been carved in the more primitive style typical of Baker Lake carvings. It is worked from the hard basalt stone that is native to Baker Lake. There is remarkable detail in the faces despite the hardness of the rock, and the forms are beautifully rounded and flowing. The mother wears a contented smile as she carries her child on her back.
